DEVELOPING SOFT SKILLS THROUGH TRANSLATION - THE TABOO SUBJECT OF DEATH IN A TEXT FOR A CHILD READER
Keywords:
translation, death topic, soft skillsAbstract
Soft skills are generally understood as skills that are usually associated with human interaction, communication and social behaviour. These include communication, i.e. the ability to communicate effectively and clearly with other people. It includes the ability to listen, to express ideas and opinions, but also to understand both verbal and non-verbal communication. If translation is understood as communication, the translator should be able to ensure the transfer of the communicated idea from the original to the target culture. In translation, however, we often encounter situations where the communicative intention is clear, but a number of factors can influence its realisation. One of these is the issue of death, which literature and fiction help to process and deal with to some extent. But what about children's literature and the child reader? The aim of this paper is to highlight the aforementioned issue through texts of ancient mythology addressed to a child recipient, and at the same time to highlight translation as a tool that enables the training of soft skills.
